Problem

The teacher, to meet the students' exemption accommodation, wants to update the student's score to what it should be, had those questions been exempted.

Conditions

A student who is exempt from certain questions (of any kind) takes an assessment or quiz and the system is unable to turn off those exempted questions in the quiz.

Steps for resolution

The only way to manipulate scores manually for exempted students is by updating the attempt score. Important: this is different than giving an overridden score.

For example:

• A student takes a 25-point quiz with adaptations turned on.
• Due to the adaptations, it becomes a 15-point quiz.
• The student is exempt from SA-type questions, but we don't have an adaptive setting for that.

When the student takes the test, they encounter SA questions worth a total of 5 points, and the student skips them.  

They score 8/15 points

Since 5 points were from SA questions, the teacher doesn't want those to count toward the total. Ideally, the score should be,  8/10 points, making it 80% (the correct percentage).

What not to do
This teacher thinks to override the score to be 80% of the quiz score, and in the grade book makes it 20/25 for that assignment. However, because they are exempt, the quiz is in actuality only worth 15 points (even though the UI shows it as out of 25). By overriding it to 20 points, they are in actuality getting 20/15 points, or 133% instead of the correct 80% for the assignment

How to properly correctly adjust the score
The correct course of action is to update the attempt score and not to use the override feature. The teacher should update the attempt score to be the correct percentage of the adaptive total. 

e.g. a 12 point (attempt score) would be 80% (the correct percentage) of 15 points (adaptive total)

Therefore, for the grade book to calculate correctly, the teacher should update the attempt score to be 12/15 points.
